Explore subjectShould I choose Quizgecko or Knowt for my notes?
Choose Knowt if you already have a useful flashcard set and want free Learn, Practice Test and Spaced Repetition modes. Choose Quizgecko if you want your source organized into a course with modules, six quiz formats and related study activities, or need an Anki-compatible export. Both can turn notes into questions and cards. Knowt also has AI lecture summaries, podcasts and voice tutoring; it is more than a flashcard library.
This comparison is published by Quizgecko. We checked Knowt's first-party help and pricing pages on 9 October 2026 and Quizgecko's current implementation. We did not test the same file in both products or measure comparative accuracy, exam results or time saved.
What can each tool do with lecture material?
| Your study task | Quizgecko | Knowt |
|---|---|---|
| Start with a lecture file | Supported files, pasted text, URLs, images, audio and video | AI Summarizers document PDFs, images, videos, PowerPoint and recordings |
| Turn a note into questions | Six quiz types, including short answer, select all that apply and matching | Notes longer than 200 words can generate a multiple-choice practice test |
| Study an existing card set | Flashcards with spaced repetition | Free Flashcards, Learn, Practice Test, Spaced Repetition and Match modes on your own sets |
| Change a practice test | Edit generated quiz questions and answers | Card-set tests have selectable length, question types, term/definition direction and starred-term options |
| Correct cards | Edit the prompt and answer | Edit terms and definitions; custom multiple-choice distractors require Ultra |
| Listen to the source | Generate a podcast as a course activity | Podcasts and Call Kai voice tutoring are listed under Ultra |
| Keep cards for another review app | Anki-compatible export; check plan availability | Checked export documentation describes PDF and mobile sharing; Anki export was not established |
A test generated from notes is different from a test assembled from card terms and definitions. Knowt documents both. Neither workflow establishes that a set covers your exam syllabus.
Which would I choose for a real study task?
If your class already has a corrected deck, try Knowt's free review modes before paying for another generator. Its Practice Test settings let you work on starred terms or retake missed questions. Your first job is reviewing the material you trust.
If your lecture needs several kinds of practice, use Quizgecko to make practice questions from notes. For example, a permitted teaching note might define a concept, give an exception and describe when it applies. Ask for a short-answer question on the definition, a select-all-that-apply question on the conditions, and a card for the exception. This is an illustrative study plan, not an output-quality test. Check that each answer preserves the source's conditions.
If you need a transcript of a class as it happens, investigate Knowt's Live Lecture Note Taker. Obtain permission to record. Quizgecko supports audio uploads, but that does not establish equivalent live recording or transcription behavior.
If your next step is Anki, check the actual exported file before moving a semester of work. A PDF is useful for printing, but it is not the same as importing editable cards into a spaced-review app.
Is Knowt's AI generation unlimited for free?
Free studying and free AI generation are different allowances. Knowt's student help page lists unlimited manually created flashcard sets and notes, plus the study modes on your own sets. It separately lists one AI summary per month, one full-length mock exam for AP, SAT or ACT, and five practice-room sessions. Those exam-hub allowances are different from Practice Test mode on an ordinary card set.
Knowt's homepage uses broader free-feature wording. For a specific allowance, this comparison follows its detailed student plan help page. Check your account's remaining AI usage before uploading several lectures. Quizgecko also has a limited free plan; current plans describe its paid options.
What should I check before subscribing?
Knowt's student web page displayed Ultra at $24.99 billed monthly, or $149.99 paid upfront annually, on 9 October 2026. The annual card labels this as $12.99 per month, but $149.99 divided by 12 is about $12.50. Compare the full annual charge and confirm checkout; do not treat either displayed equivalent as a monthly subscription.
Ultra includes unlimited AI summarizers, lecture summarizing, podcasts and voice tutoring in the checked help page. Teacher plans, mobile-store billing, promotions and account offers can differ. Do not start a trial just to compare prices unless you have checked the renewal terms.
Before paying for either tool, try one permitted source on your own device. Generate a small set, correct an answer, and study the corrected version. A feature table cannot tell you whether that editing workflow suits you.
How do Quizlet imports work?
Knowt documents a Chrome-extension route and a manual text-import route. Its help warns that the extension can be blocked. Manual import depends on obtaining term-and-definition text, using matching separators, and having permission to reuse the set.
Quizgecko supports Quizlet-set URLs, but access to a private or restricted set is not guaranteed. The Quizlet alternatives guide explains import limits and other study apps in more detail. Preserve images, formatting and card direction deliberately; importing text does not prove every part of the original set will survive.
